Tierra del Fuego MTB Expedition (11 Days)

Is a full mountain Biking exploration of Tierra del Fuego, following old paths in steppes, forests and mountains, from the Strait of Magellan to the Beagle Channel. It is a challenging expedition with logistics-assisted, high scenic value, covering natural areas rarely visited.

Highlights: 8 days trip, Cross the Andes, Wonderful landscapes, diverse environment, Single Track, boat, and more.

This fantastic journey will take you along the Tierra del Fuego Island, in a huge diversity of landscapes.

The idea is to join the Magellan’s strait with a beagle Channel Shore, following little-used single tracks, and secondary roads along all the island.

You will share the road with the Wind, Guanacos & Condors.

The tour begins in Magellan’s Strait Shore, and finish in Ushuaia, a small city called “The end of the World”, in the coast of the Beagle Channel, 1000km from Antarctica, in the south of Patagonia.

After 7 days riding our Mountain Bikes, we will cross all the Tierra del Fuego island, crossing the Andes in one of the more excitant and unforgettable adventure of our life’s. Finally we arrive to the end of the world riding our bikes.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Transfer in Ushuaia, Briefing about the trip. Hotel.
Day 2: Transfer to The north of the Island, 350km. Camping night (desert)
Day 3: Start from the 19th lighthouse at Punta Popper at the north eastern tip of Tierra del Fuego island. Approx 70 km to overnight stop in an estancia (Patagonian farm) – Camping Night – Vehicle supported day.
Day 4: 70 km to another estancia/camp area approx 20km north of the town of Rio Grande. Camping Night. Vehicle supported day.
Day 5: 70km to Estancia Carmen, Lake Yehuin & Chepelmut. Camping Night. Vehicle supported day.
Day 6: Technical day, 25/30km through wooded single track (carrying bikes for short sections), includes a river crossing. Without support vehicle. Reach Lake Fagnano, cross in dingy to camp site by Lake Palacios. Camping Night.
Day 7: 40 km day from Lake Palacios to Escondido lake. Camping Night. Vehicle supported day.
Day 8: 45 km. over Garibaldi Pass (350m climb). Brief (10km) on road descent (the only pavement road section). Camp on shore of the Beagle Channel at Bahia Brown or Estancia Remolino. Camping Night. Vehicle supported day.
Day 9: Hard last day along the Beagle to Ushuaia (45 / 60km) – carrying bikes for short sections, two river crossing. Finish Line Estancia Tunnel just outside Ushuaia. Hotel. Without support vehicle.
Day 10: Buck Up for bad weather or other problems. Hotel.
Day 11: Optional Beagle channel Navigation. 4 hs. Transfer Out.

Day to Day Description:

Day 1: The first day we pick up you at the airport at any time, and have a briefing about the trip to clear doubts.
Day 2: Transfer to The north of the Island, 350km. Camping night (desert) The second day we are going to north of the island (350km) to the start point of the trip, in the Magellan’s Strait shore. We will sleep in tents for first time, and explore the sandy beaches with 7 to 12 meters tide!. In the afternoon we will prepare all the equipment for ride the next 7 days. Have a dinner by the fire, and sleep in tents.
Day 3: Start riding. The 3th day we are starting to ride on the Magellan Strait coast, If like, we will visit the Punta Popper light house, at the north eastern tip of Tierra del Fuego island. Approx 70 km to overnight stop in an estancia (Patagonian farm) – Camping Night – Vehicle supported day.
